Edgar&Elvira

Edgar and Elvira are my 'kiddos'. Mathew and I have decided not to have children yet, as we want to go a more traditional route of having children after marriage. I had been adamant about wanting an animal in our condo when we first moved into the house in November. When I was growing up I NEVER had any sort of pet and Mathew had grown up with dogs and a cat in the house, before we took possession of our house, I actually was living at Mathews parents house for a month.  Soon I grew so fond of having another living soul always around me, that I knew we would be ready for the responsibility.

Edgar, his first night home before our move.

Edgar at 6 months old.

Edgar at a year old.

When Edgar was about 9 months old I decided that he needed a little girlfriend;  I figured he must be so lonely at home all by himself, as Mathew can work up to 60 hours a week, and I also work full time really crappy hours. So we went back to Kijiji and I scowered the ads, Mathew had a very strict set of requirements(no black, no grey, must be a female, must be a manx). Finally I found Elvira, she was never actually posted on the ad, as the lady who had the kittens wanted to keep her for herself.

Elvira 2 months old.

We got to the farm to have a 2 months old kitten handed over to us! She fit in one hand! I had misread the ad and thought she was actually 3 months old, so we were quite shocked when we got this little ragamuffin handed over to us! We were worried about her though, she would not actually approach us for the first month we had her in the house, but she soon formed a strong bond with Edgar. He was very angry with us for bringing another animal into the house and he would attack her for days!

Elvira 4 months.

Now it's no big deal, they're BFF's!

Bling Camera Strap

I first saw the SUPER cute idea of a blinged out camera strap at the blog Modge Podge Rocks. Which I quickly took the idea and ran with it.

What you will need is
  • your camera strap
  • modge podge
  • a paint brush
  • glitter
  • an acrylic sealer
  • gems

You will want to start off by adding a liberal amount of the modge podge onto your camera strap(What I have on in the picture is NOT a liberal amount)

Next, over a bowl you will want to sprinkle the glitter on top of the strap (I do it over the bowl so you can reuse the excess glitter)

Next I put modge podge on the end leather bits, and put the gems on top of it.

I had already put an additional coat of modge podge over top of the glitter and decided I needed to do one more coat to get the glitter even. Once that dried up I put a top coat on top of that and sprayed it with a sealer once dry!

Cute hey?

Let's Talk About Ink

My boyfriend and I are quite serious about tattoos, I have a quarter sleeve on my arm, the start of a large piece on my leg, and a small quote on my forearm. While my boyfriend just started to get tattoos and he already has the vast majority of his arm already tattooed. While we live in a brand new area of the city we live in, when we go to the supermarket right behind our house we get looked at like we are trash! The one thing I loath is the fact that we get judged so easily, sure my boyfriend has stupid tattoos that he only got to make him laugh, but all of  mine have meaning. Does the fact that we have tattoos make us a lower class of person? He works construction, which he is going to his 4th year of school for in the winter, and I am a apprentice hairdresser (I went to school, have my hours completed and I am waiting for November 19th to take my practical exam). Sure we are trades people and not PhD's, but we are quite happy in our lives, with the house we own, I think we're doing quite well for ourselves.

Glitter Skulls!

I absolutely love glitter and skulls! You can typically purchase a glitter skull that has already been done at a local retailer for about 20$ each. Even if I need to spend more money, if I can do it by myself I would much rather do it myself! What you will need is styrofoam skulls or paper mache tiny skulls from Michaels, modge podge, a simple paint brush, glitter, and a sealer for the modge podge.

These are the paper mache skulls, as well as the Martha Stewart glitter I used.

These are the styrofoam skulls (9.99$ each, and that's Elvira in the back)

You will want to apply modge podge to as much of the surface as possible, and and sprinkle the glitter onto the modge podge. I had put the glitter into bowls and used a spoon to cover the skulls to help eliminate some of the mess!
These are the skulls in the end, I then applied a coat of modge podge on top of the glitter and gave it a seal spray outside (we live in a condo, fumes linger!)

I am super elated with how they turned out and we will defiantly keep them out all year!

Getting healthy.

Lately I have been on a bit of a health kick, I had gained about 20 lbs when I first met the hubbs because ALL we ever did was eat out about 4-5 times a week. On top of now trying to eat healthy I have started to go for runs in the fitness room in our condo! When we first met we were still living in our parents basements, and we were not eating at home... clearly. I had moved in with his parents in October and the hubbs had bought a condo a few months before that, so we were waiting to move out in November. We were still letting our old habits loom around us with take-out, but slowly I have been buying healthier food to make myself cook(trust me I can cook!). I have been scowering magazines for recipes that I could make for myself for lunch due to the fact that the hubbs does not like raw or crunch fruits/vegetable (he is the pickiest person in the entire world!) I soon found a recipe for a tomato salad and as lazy as I am, I ended up tearing the page out! All you need is 1-2 tomatoes, feta cheese, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I ended up buying a little package of feta cheese with black olives!
Yummy!

Hair Chalking

As a hairdresser I have been loving the Ombre hair color trend! I have not been able to experiment much with the effect myself but I recently just stumbled upon hair chalking! I have blond hair so I was hesitant about the idea of putting a new color in my hair, so I looked it up! If you use a NON oil-based chalk it will not stain, as long as it is on dry hair. I love the idea of this being temporary. I found a shop on Etsy that sells hair chalk and I am thinking of purchasing a small brick of it.
